Show 124 – Immigrating to Canada: A father’s tale

Have you wondered what it’s like for a family to immigrate to Canada? Are you a recent immigrant?

Jafar Mirjalali, loving husband, father, and grandfather, was born and raised in Iran and migrated to Canada in December 1999 with his wife Minoo and their three children.

In Jafar’s tale about the challenges and the joys of moving his family to Canada, he reveals what it takes to gain job security and learn a new language and Culture.

Making a new life and being successful involves learning, making connections, keeping the family together, and serving your family and your new country. Above all, accepting changes with grace and a good attitude is key. For Jafar, finding a job when he first arrived was a full-time job, both in preparing to come to Canada and when he arrived.

He has many tips for newcomers to Canada.

Making a new life is not at all like going on vacation. It takes a different mindset and skill-set. It’s hard work for all members of the family.
